Birthday of a visible God
Shri Shri Shri Dr Shiv Kumar Swami blessing Sri Narendra Modi |
Do Gods celebrate birthdays?
They don't but we lesser mortals would feel the sense of deep devotion in celebrating such an event...specially when he is visible to us.
First of April which has an undertone of jest, celebrated elsewhere as fool's day...and in a major contrast, we in Tumakuru of Karnataka were in person witnessing a God's Birthday!
Yes, it was the 110th Birthday of a 'God who walks'...
This 'God' on his birthday woke up at 2.30 hrs like he has always been doing for the past eighty years...or so in Siddaganga Matt.
For an hour he reads scriptures, spiritual literature, without the aid of corrective glasses...mind you. This follows an elobarate Pooja, meditation, and singing of bhajans. subsequently joining the thousands of students for a community prayer around 5.30 hrs.
He has his first intake of a meal which is a glass of neem juice!. A little later he would have a small idli and a fruit. The secret of his longivity is the frugal eating habits. For lunch it has always been a small ball of Ragi mudde with his favorite moong dal, dinner is even a lighter fare.
As we reached the Siddaganga Matt early in the morning, we were politely directed to the pendal for breakfast. Very much in contrast to the frugal meal that the 'Birthday boy' has, we were treated to an elobarate spread. 'Thatte idli' which is a flatter , bigger and fluffier than an idli' you see elsewhere..Spicy chutny, vegetable Uppittu, kesri bath, khara pongal and sweet pongal, served piping hot on a banana leaf...scrumpous..and this for the nearly forty thousand people who would be arriving on the occasion. Having indulged in a not so spiritual gluttony and feeling very good about it, we were now ready for the live Darshan of 'God who walks'
